The Mercedes-Benz S-Class is the brand’s full-size sedan and calling it a limo won’t invite controversies. The S-Class is known for its sheer size, spacious interior, and supple ride quality. In summation, the alphabet ‘S’ stands for sophistication here. But Germans being known as the most notorious ones of all for putting big fat V8s under sublime sedans with tighter suspension, and they have done it again. Yes! The 2023 Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance is the newest unholy machine with the tri-arrow logo. The E in the name symbolises hybrid power, and it doesn’t mean that the S63 E Performance is subtle in any way.
The status symbol now gets supercar numbers. Under the long hood line now sits a 4.0L V8 with twin turbochargers generating a top whack of 791 horsepower and 1,430 Nm of max torque. The S is a heavy limo, and it is fact. With the ground-shattering torque, it sprints to the 100 kmph mark from a standstill in mere 3.2 seconds flat! The top speed is electronically-limited at 290 kmph. The gearbox on duty here is a 9-speed automatic transmission, sending power to all four wheels.
Handling too, remains the Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance’s strong arm. With rear-wheel steering, it can take tighter bends, and controlling the body roll are electromechanical anti-roll bars. The suspension setup on the AMG S63 E Performance comprises adaptive dampers and air springs. Hence, it can lower itself when the speed increases over 120 kmph.
Talking design, it is quintessentially an S-Class but a brawnier one at that. The front end gets the Pan America grille with a new bumper that goes well with the AMG’s styling cues. Moreover, 21-inch alloy wheels make this performance saloon look stunning. Besides, the brake callipers are painted in a yellow colour scheme to let onlookers differentiate it from a regular S-Class. Around the tail, a new diffuser is used, which sports AMG-typical quad exhaust pipes.
Interestingly, performance has not snatched away the basic credential of the S-Class – a sumptuous cabin. The performance saloon sports exquisite materials, a leather-wrapped interior with precise stitching, but with the addition of a couple of AMG badges. No, the 2023 Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance doesn’t miss out on the reclining back seat either. Thankfully, the steering wheel is an AMG unit here.
