The new VW Virtus was the second car to be launched in the country as part of the brand’s India 2.0 program and takes on the rivals like the Hyundai Verna and the Honda City in the Indian market
The new Volkswagen Virtus is currently known for its strong performance, attractive looks, and feature-rich cabin. The sedan recently scored a 5-star rating in the latest round of Latin NCAP safety tests. For those wondering, while the model subjected to test is sold in the Mexican market, it is currently being manufactured in India and gets a longer list of safety features and tech when compared to the Indian-sped version. Having said this, here are all the details you should know about the latest Volkswagen Virtus safety crash test results.
2022 Volkswagen Virtus Safety Crash Test Results
To start with, the base variant of the VW Virtus was subjected to crash tests by Latin NCAP and was the first ever midsize sedan to be tested as per the updated Latin NCAP protocols. As far as the crash test results are concerned, it scored 92 per cent in adult occupant protection tests and secured 36.94 points out of a total of 40 points.

The child occupant protection test scores on the other hand stood at 45 points out of a total of 49 as the Virtus got a 92 per cent rating. The VW Virtus midsize sedan however earned the least ratings for pedestrian and vulnerable road user tests as it scored 53 per cent rating after securing 25.48 points in this test out of a maximum of 48 points. Furthermore, it also earned an 85 per cent rating in the safety assist system test with a score of 36.54 points out of 43 points. It is however worth noting that the model subjected to crash was Mexico-spec and offered a longer features list.
Volkswagen Virtus: India-spec vs Mexico-spec
To start with, unlike the Indian-spec version that gets only two airbags as standard, the Mexico-spec VW Virtus is offered with six airbags as standard across the range. In addition to this, the sedan in Mexico is also offered with autonomous emergency braking as an optional upgrade. Furthermore, it also features a different set of headlamps than the Indian model and is offered with up to 17-inch alloy wheels. Except for this, no major visual changes or differences can be noticed between the two cars.

Having said this, the Indian-spec version of the VW Virtus is yet to be tested by GNCAP but the VW Taigun passed the same tests with flying colours and scored a 5-star rating in all the tests as per the latest GNCAP protocols to test the car. Both cars are based on the same MQB A0 IN platform and offer a similar setup for the buyers. We are expecting similar ratings for the VW Virtus.
