The Atto 3 LHD was tested by Euro NCAP and scored strong safety ratings and points that are also valid for the right-hand version to be sold in India
BYD launched the new Atto 3 in India a couple of days ago and has positioned it as a worthy rival to the Hyundai Kona EV, MG ZS EV, and other electric cars on sale in India under Rs 30 lakh. The Atto 3 is the second product in the brand’s line-up and offers a strong package for the buyers. Having said this, the new BYD Atto 3 LHD was recently crash-tested by Euro NCAP and the SUV scored an impressive 5-star safety rating in the said tests. The same ratings apply to all variants of both LHD and RHD models. Here are all the details that you should check out.
BYD Atto 3 Safety Crash Test Ratings
For starters, the new Atto 3 scored a maximum of 34.7 out of 38 points in Adult Occupant protection tests and 44 out of 49 points in the Child Occupant protection tests. The base Active trim of the Atto 3 gets a long list of safety features as standard including ADAS. These include features like autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist and speed assist system. The Indian-spec model will get similar features as a standard part of the package.

Having said this, the Atto 3 offered good or adequate protection to the driver as well as the passengers in the front deformable offset barrier test and full-width rigid barrier test. While it scored maximum points in the side impact test, the SUV offered weak protection to the driver’s chest area in the more severe side pole test. The pedestrian protection however is not as good and could be improved in future iterations.
The BYD Atto 3 bookings in India are currently open for buyers and the electric SUV offers a maximum range of 521 km on a single charge. The deliveries of the BYD Atto 3 will start in early 2023. The dimensions of the BYD Atto 3 stand at 4,445mm in length, 1,875mm in width and 1,615mm in height while the SUV has a wheelbase of 2,720mm and a boot capacity of 440 litres.

On the features front, the new Atto 3 will be offered with features like all LED lighting, a 12.8-inch rotating central screen, a panoramic sunroof, a powered tailgate, a wireless phone charger, a 5-inch digital instrument cluster, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, synthetic leather upholstery, powered front driver and passenger seats and multi-coloured ambient lighting.
The safety features on the other hand consist of features like a 360-degree camera, ABS, ESC, traction control, hill descent control and as many as 7 airbags, a centre airbag for the driver and ADAS features such as automatic emergency braking, blindspot monitoring, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control and front and rear collision warning.

It will be powered by a 60.48 kWh battery pack that offers an ARAI-claimed range of 521 km on a single charge. This battery is compatible with an 80 kW DC fast charger that takes 0 to 80 per cent charge in 50 minutes. The new Atto 3 can also be charged using a Type 2 AC charger that takes 10 hours to fully charge the battery pack.
This battery pack powers a front axle=mounted permanent magnet synchronous electric motor that churns out a peak power and torque output of 201 hp and 310 Nm respectively. It also gets regenerative braking tech and can do a 0-100 kmph run in just 7.3 seconds.
