The new Hyundai Ioniq 5 bookings will start in India from December 2022 and the SUV will be positioned as a premium and practical electric SUV in the country
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is currently one of the most anticipated electric cars to be launched in the Indian market and is expected to be a great choice for anyone looking for a premium and powerful electric SUV. The Korean carmaker recently announced the official launch date of the new Ioniq 5 in India and here are all the details you need to know about the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric SUV in India.
Hyundai Ioniq 5 Bookings To Start From 20 December
To start with, the new Hyundai Ioniq 5 is likely to be a lot more affordable when compared to the Kia EV6 which is priced at Rs 59.96 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). While the new EV6 is being brought into the country as a CBU (completely built-up) unit, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 on the other hand will be sold via the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route to keep the costs in check, In addition to this, both the electric SUVs are built on the born-electric E-GMP platform and utilise sustainable material on the inside.

The Korean carmaker is yet to share the official specifications and powertrain configuration which will be offered in India. The Kia EV6 is offered with a 77.4 kWh battery pack and challenges the rivals like the Volvo XC400 Recharge and Mini Cooper SE. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 will undercut the Kia EV6 by a significant margin and is likely to be priced under Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom) in the Indian market.

Inside, the new Hyundai Ioniq 5 will be offered with an elegant and minimalist dashboard layout and will boast a flat floor, flexible seats and a movable centre console. Furthermore, the Ioniq 5 gets sustainable materials like fabrics made from recycled plastic bottles and eco-friendly leather for the seats and door upholstery. It also gets bio-paint for crash pads, switches, steering wheel and door pads. On the features front, it is likely to get a couple of 12-inch screens for the instrument cluster and the infotainment system, a heads-up display, ADAS, and a digital screen for the rear-view mirror display. More details about the Indian-spec model are yet to be known. The ADAS safety tech gets features like Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert, Auto High Beam Assist, Lane Tracing Assist, Road Sign Assist, and Proactive Driving Assist.

In the global markets, the new Hyundai Ioniq 5 is offered with two battery pack options – 58 kWh and 72.6 kWh – both setups are offered in AWD and rear-wheel drive configurations. The smaller 58 kWh battery pack is offered with a 170 hp motor in the rear-drive version and a 233 hp motor setup in the AWD version. The larger battery pack on the other hand is offered with a 217 hp rear-wheel drive version and a 305 hp AWD version. For those wondering, the new Hyundai Ioniq 5 supports superfast 800 V charging while the users can also charge the SUV using the standard home charger. Hyundai will soon be officially confirming the powertrain configurations to be offered with the India-spec models.
