The Mahindra Thar-rivalling Maruti Jimny will be the lightest petrol 4X4 SUV in the Indian market
The Maruti Jimny is one of the most well-known names in the 4X4 scenes and not only boasts strong capabilities and design language but in addition to this, will also offer refined petrol engine options and a practical cabin. Unlike most of the global markets, the Indian-sped version of the Jimny will get a 5-door layout and was recently spotted testing in the country ahead of the launch. The 3-door version of the Jimny was first showcased at the Auto Expo 2020 in India. Here are all the details you should know about the upcoming Maruti Jimny 5-Door in India.
Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-Door
For starters, the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-Door will be unveiled at the Auto Expo 2023 and will challenge the rivals like the Maruti Thar and the Force Gurkha. While both these SUVs are currently only available with a 3-door version, both the brand are currently working on the five-door versions of the Thar as well as the Gurkha. The 5-door Jimny might also make a debut in other markets including some of the European countries.

From what we know so far, the new Jimny will be offered with the same 1.5L petrol motor that will be offered with the Maruti Grand Vitara. This engine is likely to be offered either with a 5-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox. Needless to say, it will also boast a 4-wheel-drive setup as standard. The brand might also offer a 2WD setup with the base variants.

On the design front, it will continue to feature a boxy styling along with sharp cuts, round headlamps, and a subtle front grille. The five-door version is also likely to be offered with AT tyres with large alloy wheels. What you will also get with the new Jimny will be prominent body cladding all across while the wheel arches will be large and prominent. The rear profile however is expected to remain similar to the three-door iteration.

Inside, the new Jimny 5-door 4X4 SUV will offer a similar dashboard layout and seats at the front. The cabin however will get a new seating layout and will offer a comfortable second-row bench. The brand might also put to use its new and bigger 9-inch infotainment touchscreen infotainment system. For those wondering, the Maruti Jimny 3-door features a 7-inch infotainment system.

The price of the new Maruti Jimny in India is expected to start from Rs 10-12 lakh for the base, manual version. Once launched, it will be one of the most affordable, compact, and capable 4X4 SUVs in the Indian market. The Indian carmaker is currently working on launching the new Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara in the country. The new Grand Vitara will be offered with multiple petrol engine options including a strong hybrid 1.5L TNGA engine. The price list of the SUV however is yet to be announced in the country.
