Even the MG Gloster-rivaling Toyota Fortuner is expected to get a major update in 2023
Toyota is currently working on updating and expanding its portfolio in India and is also said to be working on the new Toyota Innova HyCross for the Indian market and other global markets. The Japanese carmaker will also be launching the new Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV on August 16, 2022, to take on the rivals like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, and the new upcoming Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. Toyota is also said to be working on the launch of the next-gen Toyota Fortuner in 2023. Here are all the details that you should know about these upcoming Toyota cars in India.
2022 Toyota Innova HyCross
The upcoming next-gen Toyota Innova is expected to be called the new Toyota Innova HyCross and is expected to make its debut in late 2022, during the festive season. The launch however will only happen in 2023. From what we know so far, this new Innova will be sold alongside the Innova Crysta and will offer a host of changes to differentiate it from the Innova Crysta.

For starters, the new Innova HyCross will be underpinned by the brand’s global TNGA-C or GA-C (Global Architecture) and unlike the present iteration of the car, will feature a monocoque frame. The Innova HyCross is also expected to be larger in size and is expected to have a wheelbase of around 2m850 mm, almost 100 mm longer than the current Innova Crysta.

The new Innova is also expected to feature a new hybrid powertrain which might include the 2.0-L petrol engine. The Japanese carmaker is also expected to utilise the localiser version of the new THS II (Toyota Hybrid System II) that comprises of a twin-motor setup calibrated to deliver high ‘step-off’ torque and better efficiency. Multiple reports also suggest that the new Innova HyCross will not be offered with a diesel powertrain

On the design front, the new Innova HyCross might share the styling cues with the new Veloz MPV and will offer a sharper design when compared to the outgoing version. It will also boast a new cabin that features a new dashboard layout, better seats, and a spacious third row. Doing away with a ladder-on-frame construction will also help Toyota deliver a great ride quality and in-cabin experience with the upcoming 2023 Innova HyCross.

Moving on, Toyota is also expected to introduce the new Fortuner in Thailand in 2023. This 4X4 SUV will continue to have a ladder-on-frame construction and will be based on Toyota’s TNGA-F platform that also underpins other bigger SUVs and full-size pickup trucks in Toyota’s global portfolio like the Land Cruiser J300, Lexus LX, Toyota Tundra, and the Toyota Sequoia.

The new 2023 Fortuner will come with a new mild-hybrid diesel powertrain. This 1GD-FTV 2.8-L diesel engine will offer higher fuel economy and added torque on demand. Just like the current version, the upcoming Fortuner will feature a 4X4 drivetrain option on select trims while the buyers will have an option to opt for a manual or an automatic gearbox.
