River Indie Electric Scooter Launched At Rs 1.25 Lakh

The new River Indie electric scooter boasts a claimed range of over 120 km on a single charger in real-world usage conditions

The new River Indie electric scooter was recently launched in the country and not only boasts a practical and feature-rich package but in addition to this, also offers a capable powertrain. With a starting price of Rs 1.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), this new electric scooter will soon be available for sale in the country. If you are also planning to soon buy a new electric scooter, here are all the details you should know about the recently launched 2023 River Indie electric scooter in India.

2023 River Indie Electric Scooter Launched In India

For starters, this new electric scooter in India will be offered with a IP67-rated 4kWh battery pack that will help it boast a real-life range of over 120 km on a single charge. When charged using a standard home charger, the battery pack can be charged to 80 per cent in 5 hours. The buyers can also use a fast charger to speed up the charging process.

Powering the River Indie electric scooter is a mid-mounted single-electric motor with a claimed peak power output of 6.7 kW while the maximum torque stands at 26 Nm. This motor channels power to the rear wheel using a belt final drive. As far as performance figures are concerned, the scooter can do a 0-40 kmph run in just 3.9 seconds and has a claimed top speed of 90 kmph. The powertrain has a warranty of 5 years or 50,000 km. For a quick comparison, the Ola S1 Pro has a rated power and torque output of 8.5 kW and 58 Nm of peak torque output while the Bajaj Chetak has a peak power and torque output of 4.2 kW and 20 Nm respectively. For those wondering, the scooter has a measured seat height of 770 mm and rides on 14-inch wheels. The suspension duties are handled by telescopic forks at the front and twin shock absorbers at the rear. The braking setup consists of 240 mm discs at the front and 200 mm discs at the rear. This braking hardware comes with CBS to further enhance the braking capabilities. The scooter has a claimed gradability of 18 degrees while the rivals like Ather 450X and the Ola S1 Pro offer 20 degrees and 15 degrees respectively.

Speaking at the launch of the electric scooter, Aravind Mani, CEO and co-founder, River, said, “River’s mission is to improve the day-to-day lives of people through a design-first approach. Our first product Indie is a bold statement, combining two different offerings — utility and lifestyle. It will be the most sensible scooter with the right mix of practicality, capability and style.”

On the features front, the new River Indie electric scooter gets a coloured LCD display, and three riding modes – Eco, Ride, and Rush, In addition to this, it also gets features like side stand cut-off, reverse parking assist, and 90 degree valve stems. The scooter boasts the longest and the widest seat in the segment. It also gets crash guards at the front and front footpegs in addition to two USB charging ports and all-LED lighting. The boot space on the other hand is claimed to be 40 litres while the scooter also gets an add-on luggage option with a 25-litre top box. The Indie electric scooter is offered in three colour options – Monsoon Blue, Summer Red and Spring Yellow.

The new River Indie electric scooter is significantly more affordable when compared to the rivals like the Bajaj Chetak, Ola S1 Pro and the Ather 450X but is more expensive than the TVS iQube S. While the bookings have commenced online, the deliveries will start only after August 2023 in the country. The brand is also working on establishing a fast-charging network across the country in the coming years. The Banglore-based brand is planning to expand to 50 cities across India by 2024. More details are yet to be shared.
