Upcoming Tata Tiago EV-Rivalling MG Air Compact EV Spied

After the launch of the new Tiago EV in India, MG is now planning to launch its MG Air compact EV for buyers looking for an affordable and cheap-to-run commuter

The launch of the MG Air Compact EV was recently confirmed by the brand and the car was recently spied on test ahead of the launch in the country. The MG Air Compact EV will challenge the rivals like the recently launched Tata Tiago EV and will be one of the most affordable electric cars in the Indian market. The new Tiago EV is priced from 8.49 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and is offered in four trim options for buyers. Here are all the details you should know about the upcoming MG Air compact EV in India.

MG Air Compact Electric Car

For starters, the MG Air is offered in two variant options – Standard Wheelbase and Long Wheelbase. While both these versions measure 1505 mm in width and 1631 mm in height, the length is measured at 2599 mm and 2974 mm respectively. It is also worth noting the fact that the short wheelbase is offered with a 2-seat layout while the long wheelbase version gets a 4-seat configuration. If reports are to be believed, the brand might bring the SWB version to India.

In the global markets, this electric car is offered with two electric motor options – 30 kW (40 bhp) and 50 kW (67 bhp).  These offer a range of up to 200 km and 300 km respectively. Both these motors are offered with a single-speed automatic gearbox option. In India, the brand is expected to source the battery pack from Tata AutoComp. Details of this battery pack are yet to be known.

On the features front, the MG Air EV will be offered with a large touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument console, wireless connectivity, connected car tech, and more. It will continue to offer a boxy stance and will impress buyers with its compact footprint. The car is also likely to offer multiple charging options with the new Air EV.

The new MG Air EV is expected to undercut the new Tiago EV by a fair margin in terms of pricing and is likely to make its debut at the Auto Expo 2023. For those wondering, the Tata Tiago EV is priced from Rs 8.49 lakh to Rs 11.79 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Mahindra is also likely to soon launch the new eKUV100 in the country for buyers looking for an electric car in this segment.
